Does Asana Pricing Double When You Hit Six Seats?
Asana pricing review: Starter is $10.99/user/mo yearly, but paid plans start at 2 seats and 6 people bill as 10. Plans, invoice math, monday.com vs ClickUp.

Asana pricing review: Starter is $10.99/user/mo yearly, but paid plans start at 2 seats and 6 people bill as 10. Plans, invoice math, monday.com vs ClickUp.

Asana Starter is $10.99/user/mo billed annually as of 8 September 2026; Advanced is $24.99. Paid plans start at two seats, so six people bill as ten. Use that invoice when you line up monday.com and ClickUp.
Asana sells work management (lists, boards, Timeline, goals) per user, not per project. The public cards look like a simple per-seat menu. The bill is a seat pack.

You pay Asana, Inc. per user per month, not per project. The product is work management: tasks, projects, portfolios, and (on higher plans) goals and workload.
The live pricing page shows annual cells under a Yearly toggle: Personal $0, Starter $10.99, Advanced $24.99, Enterprise contact sales. The caption is “Per user, per month billed annually,” with “Save up to 18%.”
Monthly list prices live on Asana plans: Starter $13.49, Advanced $30.49. If a roundup quotes only $10.99, it is quoting the annual cell.
This is the same decoder job as Carta pricing, Apollo pricing, or Mixpanel pricing: the published cell is real, and pack size or add-ons still move the invoice.
Current SKU names are Personal, Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, and Enterprise+. Asana renamed Premium to Starter and Business to Advanced with no price increase and no loss of functionality. Independents that still say Premium or Business are stale.
Plan | Annual | Monthly | Seat floor | What you get |

Asana list prices as of 8 September 2026
Annual dollars are the live Asana pricing Yearly cards; monthly dollars are from asana.com/plans. Enterprise has no public cell. Do not treat marketplace averages as list price.
You can upgrade one team inside an organization and leave other teams on Personal, so you are not paying Advanced for people who only need a task list.
Paid Asana starts at 2 seats; there is no public 1-seat paid SKU. After 2 you can buy 3, 4, or 5. Then Asana sells blocks: +5 through 30 seats, +10 from 30 to 100, +25 from 100 to 500, +50 above 500.
Help Center copy is blunt: apart from the 2-, 3-, and 4-seat plans, you cannot add a single seat. If internal users exceed paid seats, Asana auto-resizes into the next bucket and invoices it.
Worked Starter annual math at $10.99:
People on the team | Seats billed | $/mo | $/yr |
|---|---|---|---|
1 (must buy 2) | 2 | $21.98 | $263.76 |
2 | 2 | $21.98 | $263.76 |
5 | 5 | $54.95 | $659.40 |
6 | 10 | $109.90 | $1,318.80 |
A 5-seat Starter invoice is $54.95/mo. A sixth internal user is not +$10.99. It is +$54.95, because the next legal pack is 10.
On r/Asana, that cliff is the complaint agencies actually budget around. One owner planned to drop an infrequent user rather than pay it:
"I'm about to cancel one of the seats for a user who seldom uses the platform in order to avoid having my monthly cost double when going from 5 to 6 seats"
u/TriiiadAgency in r/Asana (December 2025)
Solopreneurs hit the floor on the other end. A 2-person shop expected about €11 and got a pair:
"Trial ends, and you have to pay double cause you share some projects or a workspace. We have a small company with 2 people, this is ridiculous. [...] I'd happily pay more than 11 euro's a month for it, but not this way."
u/Jdeee25 in r/Asana (December 2025)
An Asana employee told the same thread that individual seats were “already in progress” in December 2025. August 2026 threads still describe a 2-seat floor. Treat that comment as a product hope, not a shipped SKU.

Asana Personal is $0 for two users. You get unlimited tasks and projects, list/board/calendar views, and 100MB per file. You do not get Timeline, Gantt, forms, custom fields, automations, or AI Studio.
The current cap is two. If you were already on Personal before 12 November 2025, Help Center Personal details still grandfather you up to 10. Articles that say “free for 10” as the live rule are reading the old card.
Personal is separate from the paid-plan trial. You can start a free trial of Starter or Advanced on its own. No credit card is required to create a Personal account.
Practitioners split on whether Personal is enough. Samantha Kasbrick has run operations content on free Asana for years:
"The honest answer, most of the time, is you can make the free plan work for at least the first few years of your business and probably even more than that."
Samantha Kasbrick in "Asana Free vs. Paid | When to Upgrade" (0:08; Samantha Kasbrick | Systems & Operations)
She also refuses the upgrade-as-cleanup fantasy:
"Paying for the upgrade will not fix that, I promise. Honestly, a disorganized free account just becomes a disorganized paid account with more features that you're not using."
Samantha Kasbrick in "Asana Free vs. Paid | When to Upgrade" (8:10; Samantha Kasbrick | Systems & Operations)
Paul at MinorCo (an Asana partner) treats Personal as a demo and Starter annual as the real trial. Both can be true. Neither overrides the official 2-user cap.
Starter is the paid plan to price first: Timeline, forms, and automations.

Versus Personal, Starter adds Timeline, Gantt, forms, custom fields, templates, unlimited rules, workflow builder, dashboards, Google SSO, and an admin console. It also adds unlimited free guests and AI Studio Basic at 50,000 credits per billing account per month.
Advanced adds, versus Starter: Goals, unlimited portfolios, Workload, native time tracking, approvals and proofing, form branching, formulas, Jira Cloud two-way sync, and Salesforce / Tableau / Power BI. AI Studio Basic rises to 75,000 credits.
On r/Asana, people describe paying Advanced “just to get workload.” If that is the only Advanced feature you need, price Workload against the $14/user/mo gap ($24.99 minus $10.99 on annual). For a 5-seat team that gap is $70/mo, $840/yr.
Monthly Starter is $13.49; Advanced is $30.49. Lock annual only if you already survived a Starter trial with the features you will still use in month four.
Enterprise and Enterprise+ are contact sales. No public dollar.
What Enterprise gates versus Advanced: SAML, SCIM, universal workload, capacity planning, view-only licenses, guest invite permissions, 24/7 support with a 99.9% SLA, and AI Studio Basic at 200,000 credits. Enterprise+ is the compliance SKU: HIPAA, EKM, and data residency.
Procurement quotes you see on marketplaces are negotiated spend, not a list cell.
If you only need SAML, ask sales whether a subset is available before you buy the whole Enterprise SKU.
Guests are free only in an organization when the person uses a different email domain. Ten company users plus two Gmail contractors is a 10-seat subscription, not 12.
Workspaces have no guests. Every collaborator counts, full access or limited. A Gmail workspace that invites a VA is billing that VA.
Same-domain “limited access” still counts as a member. Forum threads from late 2024 describe 2-seat Starter teams who added “guests” on the company domain and still paid for them.
Paul’s packaging advice is the official rule in practitioner language:
"With a workspace, you will have to pay for every user that you invite to the account. However, if you signed up to Asana with an email at a company domain… those people would be guests and you don't need to pay for guests in your account."
Paul in "Asana Pricing Explained (2026): Which Plan Should You Choose?" (1:08; MinorCo)
On r/Asana, the folk workaround is the same rule: give a VA an address on another domain so they do not consume a paid seat.
The unofficial 1-seat path is different. From December 2025 through August 2026, r/Asana documents Admin Console → Billing → Cancel Plan → “other” reason → Asana offers a 1-seat plan that support had said did not exist.
"I decided to cancel my account because I'm using less Asana and I really don't like paying for 2 seats as a solopreneur. Upon cancelling, Asana offers you to pay for only 1 seat."
u/cambronne in r/Asana (August 2026)
That is a retention offer, not a plan card. Do not model it as list price. If you cancel for real, Asana’s upgrade and cancel help says there are no refunds.
Access runs through the period end, then paid features (and data tied to them) go away. If you searched “cancel Asana” and landed on yoga, that is Asana Rebel, a different company.
monday.com work-management annual cells (8 September 2026 extract): Basic $9/seat/mo, Standard $12, Pro $19. Paid monday.com starts at 3 seats, then multiples of 5. Free is 2 seats.
ClickUp Unlimited is $7/user/mo billed yearly ($10 monthly); Business is $12 yearly ($19 monthly). ClickUp’s free plan allows unlimited members with a 60MB storage cap. ClickUp Brain ($9) and Everything AI ($28) are add-ons, not part of Unlimited or Business cells.
Asana Starter | Asana Advanced | monday.com Basic | monday.com Pro | ClickUp Unlimited | ClickUp Business | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Annual $/user/mo | $10.99 | $24.99 | $9 | $19 | $7 | $12 |
Monthly $/user/mo | $13.49 | $30.49 | Yearly default | Yearly default | $10 | $19 |
Free | 2 users | n/a | 2 seats | n/a | Unlimited members, 60MB | n/a |
Paid seat floor | 2 | 2 | 3, then packs of 5 | 3 | No floor | Whole workspace |
5-seat annual invoice | $54.95/mo | $124.95/mo | $45/mo | $95/mo | $35/mo | $60/mo |
6-person annual invoice | $109.90/mo (10 seats) | $249.90/mo (10 seats) | $90/mo (10 seats) | $190/mo (10 seats) | $42/mo | $72/mo |
5-seat and 6-person annual invoices
At five people, Asana Starter ($54.95/mo) sits above monday.com Basic ($45) and ClickUp Unlimited ($35). At six people, Asana jumps to 10 seats ($109.90); monday.com also jumps to 10 ($90) because of its 3-then-5 packing. ClickUp bills six seats ($42).
Compare the six-person invoices. The $10.99 vs $9 vs $7 cells hide the pack jump.
On r/Asana, ClickUp is the cost off-ramp and monday.com is the sibling that feels similar. Run pack math first, the same way Webflow pricing stacks a site plan on workspace seats.
Do not mix monday.com CRM ($12 / $17 / $28) into this table. That is a different product line.
Asana for nonprofits is 50% off Starter or Advanced on annual billing for 501(c)(3) equivalents and libraries, verified through Goodstack. Enterprise is still contact sales. One step on that page still says “Premium or Business.” Those are the old names.
AI Studio Basic is included: 50,000 credits/month on Starter, 75,000 on Advanced, 200,000 on Enterprise, per billing account. Plus is a paid monthly and annual add-on. Pro is paid annual only.
Asana does not publish a public dollar for Plus or Pro. There is no official “Asana AI is $10/user” cell.
In September 2026 Asana’s CFO told CFO Dive the company would seed AI Teammates and Dash into Agentic Work Management without changing tier list prices. Credits and pools can still move. The Starter and Advanced cells did not.
Timesheets and Budgets is a $5.99/user/mo annual add-on on Starter and up. It is not inside the Starter cell.
Education and startup discounts are not on the official pricing page. Contact Asana if you have a student group. Do not budget a .edu free Premium that is not on asana.com/pricing.
Asana is a fit for:
Asana is a poor fit for:
If you are still choosing a revenue model for your own product, Asana’s lesson is seat packs: a $10.99 cell can still double at the next human.
If the six-person invoice is the blocker, these are the cost off-ramps:
Take a Starter trial if Personal is blocking Timeline, forms, or automations. Stay on annual Starter through five internal users. Before you add a sixth, convert someone to a different-domain guest or accept that the next legal pack is 10 seats at $109.90/mo.
That is the Asana price. The $10.99 cell is only the unit.

As of September 2026, Semrush SEO is $139/mo and Starter is $199. One seat is included; extra users, $99 AI Visibility, and toolkits set the real invoice.

Cursor pricing review: $20 is the marketing floor. Pro+ is $60, Ultra $200, Teams $40 or $120. Two usage pools, on-demand, and what teams actually spend.

Basic $15/mo yearly, Premium $25. Site + workspace + seats: a solo brochure is $15; a 5-person team hits $230/mo.
